The tree lighting will take place Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on the Quad, said the organizer, Christina Puccio.  She also said that there would be several events including several performances from Concert Ensemble, Surround Sound, Girls from the Hill, and the Chapel Choir.

Puccio said that the event will also include a T-shirt toss hosted by the women’s basketball team, an appearance from Santa Ace, and a countdown initiation from President Fr. John Denning, C.S.C., and Vice President for Student Affairs Pauline Burke.

“I like the little nod that we have where we have purple Santa hats for the first 600 people that come. So, we always recommend coming earlier rather than later, so you can grab one of those one-of-a-kind novelties,” said Puccio.

“Within the last four years or so, we’ve tried our best to kind of revamp it to get as many people across campus involved with the ceremony, more specifically trying to make sure that everyone knows that this is something for everyone,” said Puccio.

She said they had a mix of people involved from several areas on campus to gather the college as a community and have fun. Some of the people participating are part of athletics, student affairs, campus ministry, and many others.

“The whole purpose of it is to not only get our Stonehill community excited for the holiday season, but also serve as a celebration to get everybody together and also looking forward to a well-deserved break,” said Puccio.

She said that having some fun was something many people needed since there was a lot of stress and worries around this type of year. Being able to tie it all together and have a good time, so people can have a distraction from the stressors was a great thing that came from the event.

“I would definitely say my favorite part is that initial reaction we get right after the tree lights after the countdown. I think it’s just one of those like ‘Yeah! We did it!’ moments, and you can see all the joy being brought out with everybody that’s there,” said Puccio.
