The College has announced new interim safety rules on the use of electric scooters.

General Counsel Tom Flynn announced the rules in an email to the Stonehill community. The rules will go into effect for the spring semester.

The rules state that scooters should not exceed 15 mph, are not allowed in academic or administrative buildings, should only be used between sunrise and dusk, and should not be used in inclement weather.

The rules also state that "only one rider is permitted on a scooter at a time; no passengers are allowed," according to the email.

In the email, Flynn said the College will work with the Student Government Association, or SGA, to "establish permanent guidelines for the use, charging, and storage of electric scooters and similar devices."

Flynn also said that other colleges and universities are prohibiting scooters on campus because of safety concerns, and that "this is a possible outcome at Stonehill as well."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
