SGA candidates share their vision as elections get underway

By Jay Ghiorse

Voting for the Student Government Association General Assembly began Monday, less than a week after candidates pitched their qualifications to students.

The SGA General Assembly election process will conclude on Wednesday, April 9, at noon.

Candidates from the Class of 2026 emphasized their experience of being on campus, their appreciation for the Stonehill community, and their desire to give back.

Ian O’Connor ’26, reflected back on his hard work and dedication during his last two terms as president and his aspiration to continue serving.

“I remember in 2023, in a campaign speech, I asked you all to give the kid a chance. And you guys did just that, resoundingly. And from that point on, I got right to work,” O’Connor said.

Brianna Walkom ’26, also vying for the president position, delivered a similar sentiment.

“Over the past three years, this campus became more than a college for me. It became a family. And I want to give back to a place that has given me so much,” said Walkom.

Gracie Sacca ’26, who is running for public relations coordinator, emphasized an understanding of the student body.

“I believe I have a strong understanding of what our student body connects with, when it comes to things like media and engagement,” said Sacca.

Other candidates stressed a longing to continue advocating for student needs.

“My vision for Stonehill is one where every student feels heard, valued, and supported. Where we celebrate our differences and use them to strengthen our community,” said Remonda Mankarios ’27, campaigning for president.

Jayden Crafts ’27, a candidate for vice president, vowed to put the needs of students first.

“I want to foster a positive and inclusive environment on campus, and advocate for students' needs and concerns. I’m a man of my word, and I choose not to make false promises,” Crafts said.

Jenna Dumais ’28, also running for vice president, echoed that vision.

“This past year, I chose to join SGA because I wanted to be someone others could turn to for advice, help on campus, and to have their voices heard,” said Dumais.

Some candidates listed their accomplishments and qualifications.

Jaime St. Onge ’28 cited her marketing experience as an asset for the role of public relations coordinator.

“I am working with local and small businesses to promote exercise clothing lines. Throughout my campaign, I have learned the ins and outs of social media promotions and relations,” St. Onge said.

Lianna Newell ’28, campaigning for the same position, also emphasized her experience.

“With my experience and internship in multiple internships, graphic design, and marketing, I have developed a range of skills in designing and communications, as well as strategic planning and problem solving,” said Newell.

Clodagh Duffy ’28 highlighted her past accomplishments in student government in pursuit of the class representative position.

“I have worked with my class committee to plan and host events for the class of 2028, as well as working with the other class representatives to meet with clubs and approve of new clubs,” said Duffy.
