Students stood in the bleachers ready to watch a head-to-head basketball game, waiting for the Stonehill Men’s Basketball team to take the lead against Chicago State on Jan. 24.
The game was going back and forth before Stonehill Skyhawks took the lead, 75-73, at the last second with a 2-pointer scored by player Joshua Morgan.
“My mentality going into the game was to remain focused from the second warmups started, to the end of the game,” said Morgan, a graduate student.
As the scoreboard counted down to the end of the game, Stonehill and Chicago State players raced against each other to take the winning spot.
With .3 seconds left in the game, Joshua Morgan scored the winning shot on the sound of the buzzer.
“The shot was so close to the time, that the refs had to go back and rewatch the play,” Morgan said.
“I felt like the hero. My coach put his trust in me to make the winning shot and I felt grateful that they had that trust in me,” Morgan said.
The Stonehill Men’s basketball team had to go to great lengths and work together to come out on top and win the game.
“Focusing on the game plan the coaches gave us and executing it was most important, we weren’t perfect but ended up pulling it out at the end,” said Amir Nesbitt, a graduate student and member of the team, who plays guard.
“I was happy we came together, and I was happy for my brother because he had been battling injuries all year and deserved this moment,” Nesbitt said.
