The Stonehill community is mourning the loss of a former student who was recently found dead in a hotel in Belize.

Wafae El-arar, ‘21, of Revere, was one of three women found dead at The Royal Kahal Beach Resort in San Pedro, Belize.
The cause of death is unclear at this time. Authorities in Belize are currently investigating the deaths according to NBC Boston.
According to NBC Boston, El-arar and two other women were found unresponsive in their hotel room "after housing staff had to use a master key to go inside."
"The Stonehill community offers its sincere condolences to her loved ones. Our prayers and sympathies are with them. We ask that the privacy of her family and friends be respected during this difficult time," said Stonehill's Office of Communications and Media Relations in an email to The Summit.
El-arar graduated from Stonehill in 2021 with a major in biology. According to her LinkedIn profile, El-arar worked at Mass General Brigham as a research technician since Dec. 2021.
El-arar was also a member of the women’s rugby team and chemistry club, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Some took to social media to express their sadness at El-arar's passing.
"RIP beautiful Wafae. Such a sweet and kind soul," one user said.
"How very sad, prayers for Wafae and her family," another user commented.
