Students get opportunity to work the Super Bowl

The Summit

By Kelsey Barber

It was the trip of a lifetime for six Stonehill students who traveled to the Super Bowl in New Orleans to work.

The students who returned on Feb. 11 were selected to work at the game after completing an application in September. They were then selected for an in-person interview with the Department of Sport Management faculty.

“This year six students were selected for this opportunity”, said Annemarie Farrell, associate professor and chair of the department of sport management.

“The Super Bowl is a learning opportunity I have coordinated in my 18 years as a faculty,” Farrell said.

One of the students, Emma Allan, ’25, said she was surprised at what goes into presenting the Super Bowl. “I was so excited to be a part of such a unique experience, it was unforgettable”.

“My biggest takeaway was understanding just how many roles and details are involved in executing an event of this scale. It was incredible to see how much effort and care goes into making everything come to life,” Allan said.

Any student can apply to be a part of the program if they have an interest in sports management and media.

“I’m pursuing a career in sports, so I wanted to experience it firsthand and see what it’s really like, I was also excited about the learning opportunities and the personal growth that could come from such an intense week,” Allan said.

The students also reported to the NFL house to complete required tasks, which is an area that offers activities and access to NFL players.

Stonehill students served in a wide range of jobs including managing media access and directing personnel to post-game interviews and press conferences.

“It was their responsibility to ensure smooth VIP guest experiences and support the overall execution of hospitality services, all while learning about the logistics and teamwork required for large-scale events,“ Farrell said.

Students were able to meet with the team to review logistics, special events, and work multiple jobs including ticket operations, member services, credential access, or wayfinding,” said Farrell.
