Stonehill women's basketball picked up their first NEC playoff win against Wagner on March 10.
The Skyhawks started the game off hot with a 14-2 run in the first six minutes of the first quarter. They would end the first quarter with a 23-8 lead thanks to an impressive 15-point first quarter from Sophomore Guard Brooke Paquette.
The team kept its momentum rolling in the second quarter with Senior Guard Sharn Hayward scoring 13 of the Skyhawks' 18 points in the quarter. Stonehill went into the half with a commanding 41-20 lead, with Hayward and Paquette combining for 28 of those points.
The second half began with a 6-0 run from the Skyhawks and ended the third quarter with a 23-point lead. Stonehill would finish strong in the fourth quarter and won the game 72-50.
The team dominated all night thanks to two 20-plus point performances from Hayward and Paquette. Hayward finished the game with 27 points, her 10th time scoring over 20 points this season.
Hayward earned NEC All Conference First Team honors and her 106 three-pointers this season puts her sixth all time in a single season in the NEC.
Paquette finished with 20 points on the night, marking her 10th straight game with double-digit scoring. Paquette was named the NEC Most Improved Player of the Year as well as making the All Conference Second Team.
With the win over Wagner, Stonehill moves on to the semifinals to host the Le Moyne Dolphins on Thursday night at 7 p.m. A win on Thursday would find Stonehill entering their first ever NEC championship game against the winner of FDU vs Chicago State.
